Ask yourself: Which stage are you?

1. Unconscious incompetence

   The umpire does not understand or know how to do something and does not necessarily recognize the deficit. With other words: He is horseshit and even does not know it. He must recognize his own incompetence, and the value of the new skill, before moving on to the next stage. The length of time an umpire spends in this stage depends on the strength of the stimulus to learn.

2. Conscious incompetence

   Though the umpire does not understand or know how to do something, he does recognize the deficit, as well as the value of a new skill in addressing the deficit. Or to say: He is still horseshit but now he knows it and looks for help. The making of mistakes can be integral to the learning process at this stage...

We are proud to announce that the Jim Evans European Classic will be held in Almere/NED in Kooperation with the Dutch Baseball Federation KNBSB. The date is already fixed: April 3-9, 2016, and is one day longer as usual.

Registration will be opened in September 2015. Stay tuned for news!

We provide instructors for local or national beginners and advanced umpire clinics. All ABUA-E instructors have graduated from a professional umpire school and will teach state-of-the-art techniques and precedures. As an organizer you just care for the location of the clinic, and accomodation and travel costs for the instructors – the rest is on us.

The date for the JEEC 2016 will be Saturday, March 19 to Friday, March 25, 2016. This time we plan one extra day because many of the Spanish participants do not speak English and therefore we will provide translation which is time-consuming.

As soon as this date is officially confirmed we will start to provide additional information on the new JEEC website which is now part of the ABUA-E website (umpire.eu). Just click on “JEEC” in the menu above for further information and and check out the sub-items too.

After 2008 in France, 2010 in Czech Republic and 2012 in Switzerland the 4th edition of the Jim Evans European Classic umpire clinic took place in Austria. With the support of the Attnang Athletics baseball club the Amateur Baseball Umpires’ Association Austria organized this international clinic. Participants of Austria, Germany, Switzerland, Great Britain, Netherlands, Poland and Tunesia learned and trained 5 ½ days under the supervision of the former MLB umpire Lim Evans and his assistant instructor Dick “Sarge” Nelson.
